2013 Governance Conference in Ondo State, Nigeria
CALL FOR PAPERS
The Adekunle Ajasin University Leadership Institute for Public Policy and Sustainable Development [LIPPSDEV] invites Academics, Researchers and Scholars to an Academic Conference (March 25-28, 2013) on Governance in Ondo State. The conference Theme is: Four Years of the Olusegun Mimiko/Labour Party-led Government in Ondo State: Challenges, Accomplishments and Prospects.
The purpose of this conference is to bring together an international group of scholars and practitioners from diverse disciplines to collectively explore and deliberate on issues thrown up by the emergent governance paradigm in Ondo State since 24th February, 2009, with a view to properly situating the trend of events and documenting the accomplishments of the Mimiko-led government. This conference is also expected to undertake a critic of the Labour Party government in relation to its overaching philosophy, policy choices, structure of governance and quality of outcomes. Broadly, it is an exercise directed at identifying the critical elements in democratic governance in Nigeria with Ondo State as the critical reference point; and ultimately, where Ondo State is headed going forward. Thus, participants at the conference will be challenged to move from theoretical frameworks to practical strategies for improving democratic institutions and governance processes in Ondo State in particular and Nigeria in general.
Issues that participants could address include, but are not limited to the following sub-themes:
1. Ideology and Praxis: The Labour Party/Mimiko Governance Paradigm in Ondo State.
2. The Prospects and Challenges of the “3i initiative” and socio-economic recovery in Ondo State.
3. Harnessing potentials in Agriculture and Land Resources.
4. Grassroots’ input in governance and community development- The Mimiko Paradigm.
5. Artisanship development and empowerment programme: The Journey so far. 6. Challenges and Prospects of industrialization in Ondo State: Private-Public Partnership (PPP) and beyond.
7. Urban Renewal, Rural and Infrastructure recovery challenge and accomplishment in Ondo State. 8. An appraisal of poverty alleviation strategies and employment creation possibilities in Ondo State. 9. The Abiye Safe Motherhood programme in perspective.
10. Socio-economic capacity building in Education, Tourism, Sports, Women and Youth Affairs.
11. Coastal Communities in Development Focus.
